Military Liaison Office

Supporting those who serve twice (military and public service)

The Military Liaison Office is a dedicated resource within the Personnel Support Division that supports HCSO employees and families connected to military service.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office Military Liaison Office assists employees and their families before, during, and after military deployments. The liaison serves active‑duty, reservist, National Guard, and veteran employees, helping them navigate military obligations while maintaining their careers with HCSO.

This office reflects HCSO's commitment to honoring military service and supporting those who protect both their country and their community. By providing information, coordination, and connection to resources, the liaison helps reduce stress on employees and families throughout the deployment and reintegration process.

What we do

The Military Liaison Office helps HCSO personnel and families by:

  • Assisting employees as they prepare for military leave or deployment
  • Supporting families with information and referrals while a loved one is deployed
  • Coordinating reintegration support when employees return to HCSO
  • Helping employees understand military leave policies and related benefits
  • Connecting employees and veterans with community and veteran‑specific resources

The office works closely with supervisors, Human Resources, and other support programs to help ensure that employees' military service is respected and that transitions in and out of deployment are as smooth as possible.

Before deployment

The Military Liaison Office helps employees and families prepare by providing information on leave procedures, documentation, and available support. An exit meeting is scheduled to address questions, assist with planning, and coordinate next steps.

During deployment

The liaison remains a point of contact for families and assists with questions about HCSO procedures, benefits, and available resources. The office also helps maintain a connection between the employee's military service and their HCSO career, when appropriate.

After deployment

Upon return, the Military Liaison Office supports employees with reintegration, including coordination of required training, updates, and reentry to duty. The office can also connect returning service members with peer support, behavioral health, and veteran‑focused services as needed.

How does this help the community?

By helping military‑connected employees successfully balance their service and HCSO careers, the Military Liaison Office strengthens the agency's experience, resilience, and readiness. Supporting those who serve in both uniforms ultimately helps HCSO better protect and serve the people of Harris County.
