Honor Guard

Honoring service, sacrifice, and memory

Honor Guard represents the Sheriff's Office at its most solemn and meaningful moments, honoring those who have served and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office Honor Guard is a volunteer unit of highly trained employees dedicated to honoring fallen and departed members of the HCSO family. Formed in 1977, the unit provides dignified ceremonial support at funerals, memorials, and special events, reflecting HCSO's deep respect for service and sacrifice.

Honor Guard members represent HCSO at line‑of‑duty funerals, services for retired and active personnel, and selected public ceremonies and parades. Their presence symbolizes the support of the entire Sheriff's Office and the gratitude of the Harris County community.

What we do

Honor Guard helps ensure that every ceremony is conducted with precision, dignity, and compassion. Typical functions include:

  • Providing honors at funerals and memorial services for HCSO personnel
  • Presenting the colors and representing HCSO at memorial events and other approved ceremonies
  • Supporting annual peace officer memorial observances and related remembrance activities

Through these services, the Honor Guard offers comfort to families, coworkers, and the community during times of grief and remembrance.

Our commitment

Honor Guard members are carefully selected volunteers who train to uphold exacting standards of appearance, professionalism, and ceremonial protocol. They serve as a visible reminder that the Sheriff's Office remembers and honors those who have dedicated their lives to protecting Harris County.

How does this support the community?

By honoring the past and those we have lost, Honor Guard strengthens bonds within the HCSO family and reinforces the Sheriff's Office's commitment to duty, courage, and sacrifice. This visible demonstration of respect and remembrance reassures the Harris County community that service and sacrifice are never forgotten.
